Let’s get started. Make a cake. I found it doesn’t matter what kind of cake you make, just choose one you like. We just like a simple chocolate cake.

After baking the cake, let it cool completely and get ready for the complete destruction.

This was a great activity for my toddler. She liked tearing up the cake.

We made a buttercream frosting to use. Mix in with cake until you have an even conistency. We used about a 1 and 1/2 cups of frosting with a 9″round cake. You can freeze extra mixture. We only made 8 cake pops and froze the rest of the mixture for another day.

Form Mickey shaped cake pieces. We rolled the cake mixture into three balls and then flattened them with our fingers. We then cleaned up the edges with our fingers.

Now it is time to melt some chocolate. To melt chocolate, use a double boiler or two saucepans of different sizes to melt the chocolate over close to boiling water. You don’t want a rapid boil. As long as you are melting the chocolate with a double boiler, it doesn’t matter what chocolate you use. Though, stay away from baking chips that say chocolate flavored on the package. Stir the chocolate until it is completely smooth.

After the chocolate, is melted, dip each cakepop stick in the chocolate and insert in the mickey shaped cake.

After all the sticks are inserted, place the pops in the freezer for 24 hours. This will help keep the cakepops stay in the mickey form when they are dipped in their chocolate covering.

When covering the mickey pops, use a spatula to push chocolate over the whole cakepop. Pull it out of the chocolate. Let it drip and place on wax paper. After covering all the pops, place them in the freezer to set.

Once the chocolate as set, dip the ears of the pops in melted white chocolate and place on wax. Here’s where I let my kid go crazy with the sprinkles. The cakepops can be stored in the freezer and defrosted as needed as well.
